You’ve heard us talk about our Green Bank and, by now, you’ve probably seen our sleek new building (and we hope you’ve even stopped in to say hello).
The building has been designed to meet the requirements of a LEED gold certification as established by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and verified by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI).
What have we done to make this building environmentally friendly?
• The building employs a geo-thermal heat pump which extracts energy from the earth, allowing a 25% reduction in energy from non-renewable sources.
• 66% of the roof is green—a garden of native plants—which reduces the urban heat island effect of a conventional roof.
• The highly insulated tile rain screen exterior walls are made from 40% recycled material, providing better thermal and moisture conditions for the interior space.
• Energy efficient LED light fixtures are used throughout the building.
• 20% of all building materials are obtained from recycled sources.
• 90% of all construction waste will be recycled, diverting that material from landfills.
• There will be a 42% reduction in the use of potable water due to the use of water efficient plumbing fixtures.
These are just a few of the building’s highlights. Designed by Joe Behles of Behles + Behles and built by Knudsen Construction, the building will have large windows, bringing in natural light and enhancing the employees’ work environment. It’s hard to stop raving about this building!
But that’s only part of the appeal of the new branch. After all—we really ARE focused on being the best bank around. So the best reason to visit the bank is to meet the staff. Our Branch Manager, Lu Ann Stempel, a banker for 30 years, has been part of the First Bank & Trust team since 1999, serving as a Personal Banker at our Church Street branch. She was born and raised in the Skokie/Evanston area and, in fact, could actually walk to work. She will be assisted by Quintan McGee, another lifelong Evanstonian who has been with the bank for almost 2 years.
Joining them is Acie Ferguson—with 25 years of banking experience, he’ll be able to handle all your banking needs. The teller staff of Marcia Seiden, Enlil Samuel and Catherine Davidson will be there to help you with all your banking transactions.
